Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his political allies will soon stand trial for allegedly trying to overthrow the 2022 presidential election when he disputed the results, the country’s Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday.
Responding to the court’s decision, Bolsonaro told reporters, “It seems they have something personal against me,” pointing out that a coup would typically “have troops, have guns and have leadership.”
Similar to the infamous January 6th debacle in the U.S., Bolsonaro’s supporters stormed government buildings a week after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was inaugurated in January 2023.
Those individuals were arrested by the da Silva regime, causing Bolsonaro supporters to claim, “Brazil has lost the right to freedom of expression and to demonstrate. There must be amnesty for these people who do not commit crimes.”
A bill proposing a pardon for people who participated in the January 8 riots has the support of many Brazilian politicians.
Bolsonaro, who was temporarily living as a refugee in Florida in January 2023, went back to Brazil to sit in on the court’s proceedings this week.
The Brazilian Supreme Court justices appear to be moving rapidly so they can jail the former president before he has a chance to run for office again in the 2026 presidential campaign.
The decision marks another move by the globalist sect of the Brazilian government determined to ensure Bolsonaro cannot make the country “great again” à la U.S. President Donald Trump.
