A young woman was killed and her friend seriously wounded when a knife-wielding suspect ambushed them inside a parking garage at an upscale apartment complex in Florida last week, according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday in Sunrise, a city in Broward County.
Hailey Hosford, 27, and a male companion had just parked at The Retreat in Sawgrass Village when a large, black male brandishing a blade reportedly attacked them.
Hosford retreated to the vehicle while the men were physically engaged, but the suspect “ripped the door open” and proceeded to stab her multiple times in the throat and neck, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by the New York Post.
Hosford was pronounced dead at the scene and her friend was rushed to hospital with lacerations to his neck.
The suspect attempted to leave the scene in the vehicle with Hosford inside, but failed to do so, and fled on foot.
Police located the suspect at a residence in the same complex where he reportedly lived with his mother and took him into custody.
He was identified as 21-year-old Jackson Sagesse.
Sagesse, described by the Post as a “280-pound thug,” was found with a steak knife in his pocket.
“I just killed someone and walked away,” Sagesse reportedly told officers, while also claiming he was “murdering in self-defense.”
Hosford owned her own salon in Fort Lauderdale and was beloved by colleagues.
“Her very last message to me was, ‘I just wanted to tell you that the sun is shining, the sky is blue, the water is turquoise, and that I love you much, and that you mean the world to me,’ and that was the very last thing she said,” a close friend told WSVN.
Sagesse faces charges of premeditated murder and attempted first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
An investigation is ongoing.
