A 21-year-old Nigerian national attacked a man in Katowice this past Wednesday during his workout at a gym back in February 2025, but now the man is being released without prison time. The assailant reportedly used a metal exercise hammer belonging to the gym, although the motive for the attack is unknown.
Police immediately arrived on scene and arrested a “very agitated and aggressive” 21-year-old, named Princewill Dominic, the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice reported, as cited by the Dziennik Zachodni news portal.
It reportedly took six police officers to arrest the Nigerian man. Meanwhile, the victim was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The Nigerian struck the 23-year-old victim with a 20-kilogram exercise hammer, which could have killed him.

According to sources, the Katowice Południe District Prosecutor’s Office “decided to discontinue the investigation” into Dominic for attempted murder. The man attacked was able to dodge the blow of the hammer used by Dominic, resulting in an injury to his upper back and “disruption of his health for less than seven days.”
The Nigerian man was detained for three months but has since been released.
The prosecutor’s report states that no crime was committed since “he committed the alleged act when he was incapable of recognizing the meaning of the act and directing his actions (…) due to the complete abolition of his sanity at the time of the act.”
The court stated that the fact that the man was on drugs rendered him legally insane, which means he cannot be tried for his actions.
Social media users are also claiming to have found the man’s Instagram and Facebook and they claim that he has already flown to the United Kingdom since being released, but this remains unconfirmed.
