The US Justice Department is actively investigating a proposed 400-acre Muslim mega-city just outside of Dallas, Texas, joining state officials in probing the development’s funding and intent.

US Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) on Friday via X confirmed the DOJ investigation into the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC), a 402-acre compound catered towards Muslims that would feature a massive mosque, 1,000 new homes, a school and a shopping center.

“.@AGPamBondi notified me that @TheJusticeDept is opening an investigation in response to my request into the proposed EPIC City development in North TX. Religious discrimination and Sharia Law have no home in Texas,” Sen. Cornyn wrote. “Any violations of federal law must be swiftly prosecuted, and I know under @POTUS ’ administration, they will be.”

The federal probe comes as Republican Texas state officials, including Attorney General Ken Paxton and Gov. Greg Abbott, have launched multiple investigations into EPIC and its affiliates.

“To be clear, Sharia law is not allowed in Texas,” Gov. Abbott wrote on X in opposition to EPIC last February. “Nor are Sharia cities. Nor are ‘no go zones’ which this project seems to imply.

Meanwhile, residents of Dallas suburbs have also voiced their opposition to EPIC, arguing the values of the predominantly Muslim community would clash culturally with the American values of the region’s citizens.
