Elon Musk’s SpaceX will launch an expedition on Monday seeking to become the first ever manned venture to complete a polar orbit around Earth.
The mission, named Fram2 after the first ship to reach both the Arctic and Antarctic regions, will send four amateur astronauts on the historic flight.
The launch will take place at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with the mission lasting an estimated three to five days.
To end the trip, Falcon 9’s first stage booster will return to Earth by landing on SpaceX’s drone ship called, A Shortfall of Gravitas, which will be floating in the Atlantic Ocean.
While prior flights around the globe have been in equatorial orbit, the Falcon 9 rocket will be traveling over both Earth’s South Pole and North Pole.
SpaceX posted images of the crew rehearsing for their journey.
