Nine people, including three children, were injured in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday when a car plowed into shoppers at an outdoor venue.
Footage posted to social media showed a Toyota minivan drive through a crowd of people before crashing into a structure on the sidewalk by the entrance to Santee Alley, an outdoor shopping area at Maple Avenue and 12th Street. The vehicle mounted the kerb and took out several k rails, before coming to a stop with part of the structure collapsed on top of it.
At present, authorities have not made any statement on the potential causes of the incident; although they believe it was not intentional.
Nine people were injured, two of whom were released “against medical advice” shortly after the incident. The other seven, including three children aged 8,11 and 17, were taken to hospital in stable condition.
