Police in New York City are looking for a suspect who performed sexual acts on the body of a dead man inside a subway car this week, according to reports.

The horrifying incident unfolded on Tuesday night in Manhattan.

Investigators believe the victim, an unidentified homeless male, boarded an R train at around 8 p.m. and then bummed a cigarette off a woman a short time later, sources told the New York Post.

When the victim apparently lost consciousness while smoking, the woman proceeded to rifle through his pockets, surveillance footage reportedly shows.

At around 11 p.m., the suspected necrophiliac boarded the train and began sexually abusing the deceased victim.

“Sources say the suspect performed or tried to perform various sex acts on the body, and that he would wait for moments when the train car was empty to pursue his attack. It’s believed the entire assault, which sources say involved pulling the body from the train seat to the floor, took several minutes,” NBC New York reports.

The suspect exited the train just after midnight and is apparently still on the loose.

Video and photographs of a person of interest who is reportedly a heroin addict with a criminal history have been made public by NYPD.

“An unidentified individual had sexual contact with an unconscious and unresponsive adult male aboard a southbound ‘R’ train in the vicinity of Whitehall Street subway station. Any information call us at 800-577-TIPS,” NYPD Crime Stoppers wrote on social media on Thursday.
