More than 40 individuals suspected to be members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) were arrested in a massive joint operation in Central Texas this week.
The FBI, ICE, San Antonio PD and the Texas Department of Public Safety teamed up to make the arrests outside an undisclosed residence in Hays County on Tuesday morning, noting the FBI had “developed intelligence” about suspected TdA members or its associates in recent days.
After the federal, state and local police bureaus had “established sufficient cause to obtain a search warrant for a residence in Hays Co.,” the DPS Special Response Team executed the raid, arresting “more than 40 individuals, including minors,” in addition to recovering narcotics at the scene.
“State and federal prosecutors will evaluate potential charges based on evidence obtained during the search warrant and subsequent investigation,” noted a press release from Texas DPS.
TdA made headlines after members of the gang took over entire apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado last year, using the apartments as hubs to sell drugs and plan robberies, kidnappings and human trafficking.
Aurora officials were put on notice after reports the gang had been engaged in “assaults and battery, human trafficking, sexual abuse of minors, unlawful firearms possession, extortion and other criminal activities often targeting vulnerable Venezuelan and other immigrant populations,” CBS News reported last September.
Members of the Central American gang have been arrested throughout the US for violent crimes, including sexually assaulting and murdering innocent Americans.
