More than a dozen people were injured during mass stabbing at a busy train station in Germany on Friday, according to reports.
The shocking incident unfolded at around 6:00 p.m. local time in Hamburg.
The suspect, identified by police as a 39-year-old woman with German citizenship, began slashing commuters on a crowded platform during the evening rush hour.
At least 18 victims were wounded, including four who were listed in critical condition and six who were seriously injured, NDR reports.
Witness footage of the alleged perpetrator being hauled off in handcuffs has been circulating on social media.
“The person arrested is a 39-year-old woman. Based on the information so far, we believe she acted alone. Investigations into the background are in full swing,” Polizei Hamburg announced in a statement on social media.
Popular German political commentator Naomi Seibt expressed concern that a female suspect could have been able to wound so many people apparently without effective intervention.
“Are Germans just a bunch of cowards with no love and courage for their fellow citizens??? Something is off,” Seibt asserted.
