Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has joined Trump administration Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again movement by announcing the state is officially looking into companies for illegally advertising fluoridated toothpaste to kids.
“I will use every tool available to protect our children from dangerous levels of fluoride exposure and deceptive advertising,” Paxton wrote on š Thursday.
Colgate-Palmolive Company (āColgateā) and Proctor & Gamble Manufacturing Co. (āProctor & Gambleā) are both named in the announcement, which accuses the companies of “marketing toothpaste products to parents and children in ways that are misleading, deceptive, and dangerous.”Ā
“The investigation was launched amid a growing body of scientific evidence demonstrating that excessive fluoride exposure is not safe for children. For example, in August 2024, the Department of Health and Human Servicesā National Toxicology Program released a meta-analysis that found a statistically significant association between fluoride exposure and lower IQ scores in children,” reads a statement by the AG’s office.
Last month RFK Jr. called for removing fluoride from American public water supplies.
