Democratic strategist James Carville joined Fox News’ The Will Cain Show to discuss his issues with the party’s recent strategies and to outline what he believes would be a “winning” platform going forward.
Agreeing with Carville that Democrats shouldn’t be “leaning into gender identity and pronouns,” Cain said he also believes the “Ragin’ Cajun” repeatedly comparing President Trump to Adolf Hitler is a losing message.

CAIN: "I do want to press you on one thing … I also think it's a loser to … constantly equate President Trump to Hitler … I think you've got to find a positive⌠pic.twitter.com/T1M9btU1l7
“I think you’ve got to find a positive message and stop hyperventilating over the dystopian future of America,” Cain said.
Carville responded, “Ed Martin, who Trump appointed U.S. Attorney Washington, D.C., has a long history of entertaining people which, shall we say, rather right-wing views. Trump, according to his wife in a deposition, kept a copy of Mein Kampf on his night table.”
In reality, during their 1990 divorce hearings, Ivana Trump had told Vanity Fair that Donald kept some Hitler speeches in a cabinet.
The article even hinted Ivana may have been trying to slander her husband amid the separation, asking, âIs Ivana trying to convince her friends and lawyer that Trump is a crypto-Nazi?”
Continuing, Carville stated, “Trump has said that he admires the generals Hitler had. He wishes he had more generals like Hitler does.”
That accusation stems from a 2024 article by The Atlantic where two anonymous sources alleged Trump said during a private White House conversation, âI need the kind of generals that Hitler had. People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.â
Trump spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer told the outlet, âThis is absolutely false. President Trump never said this.”
Carville went on to accuse President Trump of siding “with authoritarian countries,” asking Cain, “Do you have to wait ’til he becomes Hitler?”
“And, let’s not talk about Elon Musk, who’s the biggest thing, who said that Hitler was not responsible for the Holocaust, it was actually the postmen, the employees that did it,” the longtime Democrat operative added.
He continued to say Trump has a “fascination with right-wing authoritarianism and Mein Kampf.”
Cain accurately responded by saying the slew of claims are “hyperventilating and half-truths reported from media” before emphasizing his point that comparing Trump to Hitler “is a loser” for the Demorats.
