Former Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders joined the “Flagrant” podcast this week for a wide-ranging discussion where at one point the socialist politician said he wouldn’t argue with a show host accusing the Democratic Party of being a threat to democracy for repeatedly rigging its primaries.
The Democrats infamously nominated Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020 despite Sanders clearly being more popular among voters.
Comedian Andrew Schulz told Sanders that he viewed the Democratic Party as a political group that did not allow voters to elect their candidate of choice and that the party selected whoever they wanted.
“We talk a lot about the Republicans being autocrats and oligarchs and taking over democracy, but from the Democrat perspective – I’m a lifelong Democrat – I felt like the Democratic Party completely removed the democratic process from its constituents,” Schulz explained. “I think they need to have some accountability.”

AKAASH: âThere hasn't been a fair primary for the Democrats since 2008. Are they not also a threat to democracy?â
BERNIE: âYeah, I'm not going to argue with thatâ pic.twitter.com/AfVoKtw3Zn
Sanders threw his hands in the air and answered, “No argument here.”
Schulz continued, “I donated to you, I wanted you – I mean, in 2016, I was like, ‘This is gonna happen. This guy’s gonna do it.’ And, it felt like they stole it from you. And, if I’ll be honest, it broke my heart when you supported ’em.”
The Vermont Senator told the podcast hosts his wife agrees that he shouldn’t have cucked to the Democrats after his candidacy was blatantly stolen, saying he only backed Clinton and Biden because he felt they were better options than Donald Trump.
Next, show host and comedian Akaash Singh chimed in, saying, “I mean, could we not say, ostensibly there hasn’t been a fair primary for the Democrats since 2008. Are they not also a threat to democracy?”
“Yes!” Sanders quickly replied, adding, “Fair enough. Yea. I’m not going to argue with that point.”
It took almost an entire decade, but Sanders finally expressed a little frustration with the DNC forcing their base to support unpopular candidates.
