Multiple people were hospitalized after a box truck plowed through a crowd on Tuesday afternoon in Boston, MA, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded at around 12:45 p.m. in the Chinatown neighborhood of the city.

A Penske cargo truck reportedly hopped a curb onto a sidewalk, overturned, and smashed into storefronts at the busy intersection of Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue.

Videos from the scene show the large vehicle pinned between a pole and multiple businesses.

“Firefighters used extrication tools to removed the trapped driver from the cab of truck,” the Boston Fire Department explained in post on X.

At least four people were hospitalized, two of whom were in critical condition, NBC Boston reports.

“Based on our records, the truck involved was out on rent to a commercial trucking company. We have no other information at this time,” Penske said in a statement.

It is currently unclear if the crash was accidental or not.
