Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) was brutally mocked by El Salvador President Nayib Bukele for flying down to sip margaritas with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an El Salvador national and illegal alien MS-13 gang member deported by the Trump administration last month.
“Kilmar Abrego Garcia, miraculously risen from the ‘death camps’ & ‘torture’, now sipping margaritas with Sen. Van Hollen in the tropical paradise of El Salvador!” Bukele posted to X alongside photos of the pair meeting.
The margaritas were suspiciously absent from a photo Sen. Van Hollen shared on X.

Van Hollen had flown to the country as a political stunt to check the “condition” of Abrego Garcia, who the senator has repeatedly referred to as a “Maryland man,” after he was deported to El Salvador and locked up in the country’s renowned CECOT mega-prison.
“Now that he’s been confirmed healthy, he gets the honor of staying in El Salvador’s custody,” Bukele added in a subsequent post.
Following the Democrat senator’s margarita meet-up, President Donald Trump blasted him on Truth Social, writing, “Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland looked like a fool yesterday standing in El Salvador begging for attention from the Fake News Media, or anyone. GRANDSTANDER!!!”
The senator’s trip to Central America follows weeks of Democrats and the news media claiming the Trump administration wrongfully deported Abrego Garcia.
However, the Trump team has argued he was correctly deported and is a member of the MS-13 gang, which was designated a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” following an executive order signed by Trump on Jan. 20.
The administration has gone as far as releasing police reports showing Abrego Garcia was with another MS-13 member and a leader of the gang when he was initially arrested. A confidential informant also fingered him as an MS-13 member, and two immigration courts have also “ruled that he was a member of MS-13 and that he was illegally in our country,” according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
On Wednesday, Trump Border Czar Tom Homan revealed tattoos on Abrego Garcia’s hands also prove he’s MS-13.
“I talked to an MS-13 expert today, who also showed me pictures of his hand, where he says, absolutely, the tattoo in one of his hands was absolutely an MS-13 gang tattoo, nothing questionable about it,” Homan told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
Additionally, new police reports released by the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday showed Abrego Garcia was also suspected of human trafficking after he was pulled over in Tennessee with eight people in his car.
While the mainstream media claims Trump is defying court orders to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return to the US, the reality is he’s an El Salvador citizen who illegally entered the US — and an MS-13 gang member and probable human trafficker to boot.
President Bukele made it clear earlier this week he had no intention of returning Abrego Garcia back to the US, saying it would be akin to illegally “smuggling” a terrorist into the country.
Asked whether he would allow Abrego to walk free in El Salvador, Bukele added, “I mean, we’re not very fond of releasing terrorists into our country.”
“We just turned the murder capital of the world into the safest country in the Western Hemisphere and you want us to go back into releasing criminals so we can go back to being the murder capital of the world? No, that’s not going to happen.”
Despite illegal immigration being a central issue this past election and a poll this week showing most Americans agree with deporting all illegal aliens, Democrats somehow still don’t have a clue.
