The Syrian migrant, Shadi S., who murdered a Berlin subway passenger on Saturday in a random attack, should have been in prison already due to an open arrest warrant.
The Syrian, who killed a 29-year-old German man Bobby H. on a train in the Charlottenburg district on Saturday, had an outstanding arrest warrant at the time of the stabbing.
The Syrian was already given probation, which amounted to a two-year suspended sentence, by the Chemnitz Regional Court for a serious knife attack. However, due to only being given probation, he did not serve any prison time. During the trial, Shadi S. continuously issued threats to people present in the courtroom, but that did not appear to lead to any consequences in terms of sentencing. He was convicted of grievous bodily harm, assault on law enforcement officers, and insults.
However, Shadi S. violated his parole, which led to a new arrest warrant in Berlin.
The Syrian will not be able to serve any time though after officers opened fire on Shadi S. when he attacked them on Saturday. He died in a Berlin hospital on Sunday.
“State failure in migration policy costs lives”
Alternative for Germany (AfD) co-leader Alice Weidel has responded to the incident, writing on X, “The Berlin subway knife murderer is a convicted Syrian violent criminal who was walking free despite an arrest warrant. State failure in migration policy costs lives. We are sending criminals and illegal immigrants back to their home countries!”

The case from 2023 involved Shadi S. stabbing his sister, which produced an 8-centimeter-long knife wound around 4 centimeters wide. Shadi S. stabbed her after she refused to allow him to see the contents of her smartphone.
When the police tried to arrest him for the stabbing, he broke an officer’s hand and insulted them.
Despite this extreme violence, the man never served any prison time.
Shadi S. was given refugee status in 2016 but did not fulfill a work requirement that was a part of his court sentence. Due to this, the Chemnitz prosecutors told a Berlin Regional Court that Shadi S. had violated his parole and should be detained.
However, that was not Shadi S.’s only run-in with the law. He has a total of six convictions and has been the subject of 11 investigations in Berlin since 2020. He was convicted twice in Berlin, and once in Neurippin, Fürstenwalde, and Dresden, according to the German newspaper BZ.
In February 2024, a court sentenced him to fines for threatening behavior, but he was also given no prison time. Each sentence resulted in no serious consequences.
On top of all of this, the Syrian’s trail of violence never meant he had to leave the country, despite only having a residence permit. He was allowed to remain in the country for “humanitarian reasons.” As is so often the case, the liberal progressive “humanitarian” reasons that underpin such actions have led to the loss of life and bloodshed.
Now, a German man has lost his life due to the failure of Germany’s legal system.
The victim’s wife told Bild, “He was the most beautiful, loving, and loyal person in the world. How positive and wonderful he was. The best husband and father anyone could have ever wished for. The best thing that could have ever happened to me.”
An acquaintance told the newspaper, “He had a difficult childhood, but many plans. On May 5, he wanted to celebrate his birthday with his family in Thailand.”
