Since taking office only two and a half months ago, President Donald Trump has done much to improve our immigration policies but still faces challenges.

The New York Post recently reported on Trump’s accomplishments thusly: “The Trump administration has deported more than 100,000 migrants since President Trump returned to the White House in January, The Post has learned. Both ICE and CBP officials have made 113,000 arrests and carried out ‘north of’ 100,000 deportations since Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration, a Department of Homeland Security official told The Post Monday [March 31]. Sources said it shows that Trump is keeping his promise to boot illegal migrants, alleged gangbangers and suspected terrorists from the United States.”

Some have faulted Trump for not doing enough. It’s true, much more must be done.

But we have to remember the Trump administration inherited the Biden system which was designed to not protect our borders. So they had to start all over. Plus, there are logistical problems.

“Trump campaigned heavily on cracking down on illegal immigration, and on Day One, declared an emergency at the border, sent thousands of additional troops to the region, shut down the asylum system to illegal crossers and launched a mass deportation effort across the country.”

It’s impressive how fast the Trump admin got things going. It really did start on “Day One.”

However, “ICE has since ‘maxed out’ its detention space and is asking Congress to fund additional beds to support the Trump administration’s deportation campaign that yielded 32,000 arrests in its first 50 days.”

Remember, Congress needs to do its part.

Meanwhile, “Illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border have also fallen to levels not seen in decades — hitting a stunning new low in March — with DHS sources calling it ‘the Trump effect.’”

Trump is dissuading potential illegal aliens from coming here. That’s better than having to deport them.

“’Illegal entries into the United States are no longer a backdoor way to getting status,’ a source said.”

Good.

“Border agents barely saw 7,000 migrants enter illegally in March. That’s down 94% from the 137,000 people who poured across the border in March last year under President Joe Biden. It follows February crossings of roughly 8,300 illegal migrants, the lowest in at least 25 years.”

“Migrants are ‘scared there are consequences now,’ said one DHS source, adding that ‘everyone who is caught is charged and does time.’”

Fear is an effective motivator.

“Most of the illegal crossings took place in the San Diego and El Paso border sectors, sources said.”

Interesting.

“If the border crossings stay at these levels, the US could see the number of illegal migrants hit a low not seen since 1968.”

This is all good news, but there are obstacles.

Nowadays, the most effective opposition comes from federal judges, who should know better.

Consider one such case, that of Jeanette Vizguerra, a longtime illegal alien activist and illegal alien herself.

As I reported in a previous article, Vizguerra was finally arrested by ICE and slated for deportation.

But on the same day my article about her arrest was published, federal judge Nina Wang ruled that Vizguerra couldn’t be deported without having a court hearing.

Incredibly, Vizguerra’s lawyers are arguing her case on free speech grounds.

The smoking gun for this argument?

When she was arrested, an ICE agent told her, “We finally got you.”

Laura Lichter, one of Vizguerra’s attorneys, explained it with this tortured logic: “In the context of what’s going on in immigration enforcement, as we’ve seen over the past several weeks, speech, conduct, being involved in protests, saying things that might not be popular seem to be the kinds of things that gets the attention of the authorities.”

“You can find plenty of (social media) comments from people who are clearly showing that the reason to target this individual had to do with her being an activist.”

It’s incredible that such legal arguments could be made.

Jeanette Vizguerra is an illegal alien who publicly promoted the illegal alien cause for decades.

Such a person should be targeted and removed from our country.
