Vice President J.D. Vance on Wednesday headed to Texas to update the American people on the Trump administration’s progress securing the southern border, as illegal crossings hit their lowest levels in decades.
Vance toured the US-Mexico border in Eagle Pass flanked by a delegation that included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
The vice president mentioned the low number of illegal crossings during an indoor roundtable session with US Border Patrol and Texas State officials, including Gov. Greg Abbott (R), where he reiterated President Trump’s remark from Tuesday’s joint congressional address that to secure the border, “We didn’t need new laws…We needed a new president.”
After a few public remarks, Vance ordered the press to “get the hell out of here” so a private conversation could ensue.
Later, the vice president, Hegseth and Gabbard held an outdoor press conference where they assured Americans the Trump administration has made border security a top concern.
Hegseth gave a few remarks:
Gabbard also commented on DNI’s role stopping terrorists from entering the country:

Turns out the Trump administration’s efforts to secure the border have been greatly successful.
On Tuesday, Axios reported the number of illegal crossings fell sharply during the first days of the Trump administration, reaching their lowest levels in decades.
The vice presidential delegation’s trip to Texas comes as President Trump in his address Tuesday night underscored the dangers of illegal immigration by highlighting the brutal death of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, recognizing her mother after signing an executive order renaming a Texas wildlife refuge in her honor near the Gulf of America.
